Review
3.5 stars

My Best Friend's Stepfather is a super steamy taboo romance that really will set your kindle on fire! I kept changing my mind about whether to give this book three or four stars, so in the end I decided to go down the middle and give it three and a half stars. There were some things that I really liked about this book, but there were other parts I struggled with.

On the positive side I really enjoyed the sex and BDSM scenes, they were well written and so, so hot. The main characters had great chemistry together and this resulted in many passionate encounters that were very sexy to read about. Overall I liked the plot line too, I thought the twists were great.

Sadly the biggest problem that I had with this book was that I didn't like any of the main characters. This meant that I didn't really care about them which affected my enjoyment of the book. It's a shame really as I was really looking forward to reading this one and it had a lot of potential. My Best Friend's Stepfather receives three and a half stars.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Synopsis
What happens in the dungeon doesn't stay in the dungeon.
"My sex stuff wouldn't make my father happy, but the feds didn't mind it at all. In fact, the official story was that I was the ex-boytoy of some now-disgraced Chinese billionaire. The gay wasn't an issue. Even the BDSM wasn't an issue. The issue was money-laundering. As long as they saw me as just another party boy, I was safe."
Or so he thinks. And then 22-year-old reformed bad boy Shale Shelby becomes involved with an A-list Hollywood action star with a strong taste for dominating younger men. His life may never be the same.

Excerpt
..."I really don't think it's a good idea for me to get involved with the fans, you know?"
The fans? "You're really in love with yourself, aren't you?"
"Don't pretend you would be here if I wasn't in the movies."
            "You're in the movies?"
"What did I just say about playing stupid? There's a lot of models I could have in my bed right now if I wanted stupid."
"You're pretty enough to be in the movies." I looked him over. Yeah, I could definitely see this one as some kind of star. Those dimples were quality.
"Stop. Just stop. I don't need a lot of honesty from a blowjob, but I need that much."
"OK, OK, you're in the movies, and I'm your stalker, and you had to capture me and teach me a lesson. Maybe you better handcuff me again. I don't think the last lesson took."
"I really should ask you to leave." But we both knew he didn't want to.
I snuggled close. "All right. Name one movie I've seen you in."
            He named five.
Oh fuck. I sat up and took his head in my two hands. Turned it this way and that to study him from every angle. "I just thought you were a guy who looks like him," I said.

3.5 stars

Reaction Shot is a steamy, kinky read with an action packed storyline starring a dominant Hollywood star. I was going back and forth between three and four stars for this book's rating, so I eventually settled on 3.5 stars rounded up to four stars. The storyline is interesting, but it felt rather rushed. The suspense part of the story confused me at times and I feel that this book would benefit from being a bit longer so that everything could be padded out with more detail. Having said all that though, I still enjoyed this book. I liked the BDSM scenes, and I can forgive the lack of safe words etc as it gave the book a grittier, raw edge. I'm not going to go into any detail on the plot itself, as I'm finding it very hard not to accidentally include spoilers. This is an entertaining, sexy story that receives 3.5 stars.

Book review - Maiden Claimed by Ravyn Rayne (historical romance) 3.5/5stars

Maiden Claimed
Historical Erotic Romance
3.5/5 stars

Blurb

It was supposed to be a simple trip to the market in Paris. Nothing for Lady Hannah is ever simple. One secret after another.

The lies are mounting up.

Lady Hannah has made a deal with the devil. Worse, she's falling in love with him. There's no turning back.

A steamy medieval fantasy romance filled with spankings and erotic pleasures.

Review
Maiden Claimed is a fun and entertaining historical romance with a saucy twist. It's a short book, and personally I'd have preferred it to be a bit longer so that the story could have been fleshed out a bit. But if you're looking for a hot short read then this book could be for you.

Lady Hannah leads an exciting but complicated life as mistress to the King AND Queen, who she has loved for years. But after a shopping trip goes awry her life takes an even more complicated turn when she meets Lucas. Lies, passion and love combine to create a thoroughly entertaining story that receives three and a half stars.

BLURB

When Army Ranger Captain Everett Palmer enters gay BDSM club Cuffed Links, he is seeking brutal punishment for what he perceives to be an unforgivable failure: allowing an entire squad of men under his command to die while he worked to defuse a bomb at his base. Everett initially wants only pure pain, which professional interrogator and jaded British aristocrat Colonel Phineas Bainbridge is more than prepared to give. Their meeting, however, is not at all by chance.

Phineas has been contracted to coerce a false confession from Everett, implicating the captain in planting the bomb. Phineas has tortured many men in the past, but there is something different about Everett Palmer, a man whose sheer purity of soul causes the colonel to question his every selfish, devious act and legion of war crimes.

In Submit for Redemption: Book One - Submission, erotic romance and spiritual redemption come from the most unexpected places - from the seedy extremes of a smoke-laden, neon-drenched bondage den to the tropical, hedonistic pleasures of Phineas' private Greek island.
On this unbidden psychosexual odyssey, Everett and Phineas find exactly what they don't expect: a chance to redeem their troubled souls and fulfiltheir every romantic ideal. But the clock is ticking. The deeper Phineas falls in love with Everett, the harder it becomes to finish his assigned task. If he succeeds, the consequences may be far more explosive than he ever anticipated.

EXCERPT:

Everett was rudely awakened by a deep voice and the warm firm grasp of leather on his balls. They were being gently cradled and fondled. His eyes opened and fixed on Reggie’s enraptured face. He swore he saw him tremble with excitement.
“Oh, my dear captain! My heart is a-flutter!”
Hot rays beamed in from the floor-to-ceiling beveled glass in the library, the early morning sun shower blinding him. It was hot, but no hotter than the flames baking his rear from the fireplace for the past five hours.
The regally attired man daintily removed his right glove and slowly licked his index finger, bringing it behind the captain’s firm ass. Without any subtlety whatsoever, Reggie plunged the wet digit into his hole, slowly rotating it as he did. Moving closer, he replaced the glove and dug both leathered hands into his sweaty buttocks.
Reggie’s eyes closed as he seemed to listen to the combination of creaky cowhide and Ev’s moans of protest. The aristocrat’s head moved in slowly, and his tongue flicked out, licking Everett’s staff sensuously, like a lollypop.
“Goddamn it, Reggie!” the captain spat, shaking his head in irritation. “What the fuck is going on?” He fought to control his rage, swearing at the sedatives that still clogged his bloodstream. He couldn’t believe this was happening to him.
Reggie stepped back and laughed. It was a chillingly sadistic low evil chortle, a laugh of depraved pleasure.
“Sorry, Ev—I should have warned you about this part. Just what did you think I would do? Sit you down and have a conference with you? Ask you how you wanted to suffer? Discuss your options? What fun would that be? Silly boy, there are so many ways to be tortured. And you, my ‘straight’-laced young friend, you need to enjoy yourself. You’re strapped in now. Why not enjoy the ride? Relax! After all, that is what I intend to do. Oh yes,” he gloated, “I intend to enjoy myself very much.”
Everett bit back a chunk of bile in his throat as he realized how much Reggie would indeed enjoy shaming and hurting him. Didn’t men like him live for this sick shit? Some part of him stupidly had—as Reggie described—thought this was all for show.  But the worst part was that his own cock was betraying him, responding already to the aristocrat’s personal treatment.
Reggie swaggered slowly to the small liquor cart that they had utilized only hours before. It was now laid out like a mini-breakfast buffet with a few pastries, freshly-made bloody marys, and a pyramid of crepes, dripping with brown sugar and whipped cream. The big man lifted one of the crepes like a cannoli and dunked it in a warmed china bowl containing what looked to be some kind of syrup. He turned and walked deliberately toward Everett, munching intently, his gloved hand dangling the crop by its keeper loop.
He grinned evilly at Everett and again wrapped his lips around the plump pastry, biting into it, humming with obvious bliss as the delicacy gushed over his palate. Everett felt his stomach surge with acid. He had never been so hungry in his life, and he was now just realizing it. When had he eaten last? He honestly couldn’t remember.
“Would you care for a bite, my good captain?” Reggie inquired pleasantly. Everett continued to stare at the small roll as it gradually vanished down Reggie’s gullet. “You’re a bit too high up for feeding, but perhaps later,” he taunted. “Maybe you’d enjoy some maple syrup, first? It’s quite rare and expensive to import in these parts. The man who sends it to me from a small farm in the so-called Northeast Kingdom of Vermont has written personally, many times, telling me what an honor it is to serve a member of the Peerage. Apparently he finds my title impressive. Or perhaps it’s the hand crafted, embossed stationary in which my checks are delivered.” His chuckle was almost a growl. He shrugged his shoulders noncommittally.
Everett felt himself growing weaker in the chains. It disturbed him how Reggie had seemed to forget about him entirely, apparently thinking only of his appetite, his royal pedigree, and his obscene wealth. He watched his tailored velvet-clad form saunter back toward the cart and curiously lift the bowl of syrup, inspecting it lovingly.
“I’ve told him that I love sweet things,” he continued obsequiously. “And you, dearest captain, surely rank with those. It’s amazing how satisfying meat can be, by the way, when added to this mélange... especially a tenderized, mouth-watering sausage, perhaps?”
Reggie licked a stray tendril of cream from his glove and bared his teeth. Still carrying the bowl of syrup, he raised the whip above his head, sending it zinging toward the young captain’s ball sack but only lightly clipping it. He hadn’t even spilled any of the warmed syrup in the process.
Ahh! God!” Ev sang. Immediately he began to feel the swelling. It was almost the exact sensation as being kicked in the groin, only somehow worse. Whereas the latter experience produced only a dull ache, this new sensation was similar, but turned quickly into a lacerating burn. It didn’t stop for minutes afterward.
Reggie laughed heartily and placed the bowl of syrup on the mantle, raising a long black cigarette holder, a much more formal and pretentious model than he had used earlier. He clicked open his lighter, puffing with satisfaction, hands behind his back, looking very full of himself. This man was a true piece of work, Everett marveled. He’s enjoying my pain. He was unsure of how far he would take this; this turn of events was too drastic, too perverse. Yet something gnawed at him, a feeling he couldn’t entirely deny or distrust. Pleasure? He recoiled, repulsed with himself.
“Now, my good captain,” his tormentor smirked. “Was that more what you were seeking?”
Everett shuddered, the motion sending him swaying in his bindings, as every new sensation washed over him like rose-tinted sewage.  Although all of this was foreign and terrifying, his cock didn't care, hardening at some hidden promise these new experiences held for it, for him.  It bobbed, almost slapping his stomach, anticipating what awaited: his complete helplessness, this brute's obvious pleasure, other unknown humiliations and tortures, and still, above all, the pain. The glorious, mind-numbing pain! For a minute, nothing existed but agony. And it was good, too good. And the least he deserved.

REVIEW
I've found this book quite difficult to rate and review as there were things I loved about it, and other aspects that I wasn't so keen on. I kept changing my mind between giving this book three or four stars, so in the end I decided to go down the middle and give it three point five stars. This book has a very intriguing storyline and there is so much going on. I must admit that I found it all a little confusing at times (but I do have health issues that affect my concentration, so it may have just be me missing things). Despite this though, I just couldn't put the book down! I just had to keep reading to find out what happens next. It does end on a cliffhanger (which I knew before I started reading) so I really want to keep reading the series to find out what happens next.

Army Ranger Everett goes to a BDSM club looking for physical punishment as he feels guilty that he survived a bomb attack when some of his men didn't. Here he meets Phineas who is happy to dole out the punishment that Everett thinks he deserves. Phineas has been contracted to extract a false confession from Everett, but things start to get complicated for him when feelings become involved.

This is a unique story, with many plus points - I enjoyed reading it even though it did leave me a little befuddled at times (which is not very difficult to do anyway!). Submission receives 3.5 stars.

Review
I really wanted to fall in love with this book, as I enjoyed the previous book in the series, but parts of it fell a bit flat for me. The first half of the book was great and was heading for five stars, but I just kind of lost interest in the second half. I did still enjoy this book, it has lots of positives, but I think it had the potential to be so much 'more'. All that being said though, this is still a good f/f historical romance with two main characters that are easy to like and connect with.

Vanessa and Nora have been together for twenty years, and have raised Vanessa's two adult children together. In the first part of the book it alternates between their present day and when they first met. Nora has a traumatic past, which we learnt a lot more about. This section of the book was my favourite, it was so emotional. I loved how Vanessa helped Nora cope with what happened, and the love that grew between them was heartwarming to witness. When Nora receives an unexpected letter from someone claiming to know Nora's daughter, old wounds are opened up for both her and her daughter. Can the past be overcome so that they can be a happy family?

I enjoyed seeing characters from the previous book, it was like catching up with new friends. It was great to meet new characters too, especially Vanessa's two children who will be starring in the next two books I believe.  Bound With Love was a nice, quick read that gets three and a half stars.

Excerpt from Learning to Move Forward – A Learning Series Book 3.5

My mind was befuddled from the passionate kiss Jonathan had just laid on me.  It took me a couple of minutes to get my focus back.  “I wanted to speak to you about the restaurant.”

“Okay?  What about it?”  He sat down with a curious smirk on his face.  He knew I didn’t know much about running a restaurant, though I’d helped out a time or two when he had some staff out due to illness.

I straddled his lap, which caused me to gasp, when I felt his stiff rod poking my crotch.  “I was wondering which you enjoy more, working for Garrett or working here?”

His hands came down on my hips and he rocked up into me, causing me to gasp.  “I like both, but lately I seem to enjoy the contract negotiations at Waters Medical Industries.  Why?”

Two could play this game.  I ground down against the bulge in his pants.  “Have you ever thought about keeping the restaurant, but promoting one of your chefs or staff to be a manager, so they’ll have to deal with some of the problems and not bother you as much?”

He leaned forward and plastered my neck with gentle kisses and swipes of his tongue.  “I’ve tossed around the idea, why?”

I rubbed my chest against his, feeling my nipples harden as a result.  “What if you promoted one of them, but maintained creative rights and ownership of the place, plus you gave them a small stake in the restaurant?  It would probably boost moral, make for fewer missed days, since they’d all have a small piece of the pie, so to speak, and have to work more cohesively as a team.”

What he did next happened so quickly, I didn’t have much time to react.  He locked the door, had my pants, and his, off, and had me splayed out across the desk on my back.  “Grace, I want your arms above your head.  Grab hold of the desk, if you can, and don’t let go until I tell you to.”  He reared back and in one quick thrust he’d pushed balls deep into my pussy.

His lips came down hard on mine capturing my gasp.  “I need you quiet, love.  This is a restaurant after all.”

This wasn’t making love, like we’d done earlier this morning.  This was hard, fast, dominant fucking.  He set a pace that had my body whimpering with the need to release.  “No coming until I tell you.”

Damn, him!  I needed to come, now!

~ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ~
Cynthia P. O'Neill

I grew up in a small town in South Florida called Clewiston and moved to Central Florida to attend college. I married my friend, love, and soul mate and still reside in the area with our amazing son, and a feisty, four-legged little doggie boy.

In my books, I draw on my background in healthcare, business, and science, along with my husband's engineering and wireless technology knowledge.

I currently write on all levels of Romance. The Learning Series is for those who like a little more steam with their books, falling into the categories of Contemporary and verging on Erotica, with a hint of Suspense. The Remembrance Series encompasses Young Adult, with a touch of Paranormal activity and a hint of Historical romance. A new contemporary romance series is underway, called Need. It will be different than the others, because each book will focus on a new couple, while all of the characters will still have a large presence throughout the series.

I try to make my writing very personal and close to her heart. Regular life is the inspiration for my books, but I'm only limited by imagination taking ideas to new heights, opening up possibilities that would normally not exist.

On a more personal note...I love to cook and create in the kitchen and on the bbq grill. I sometimes lose myself in a song at the piano. I often sing with my son while we are driving or making dinner together. I enjoy crafts (flower arranging, making wreaths, painting pottery, needle point and drawing in pencil and charcoals). My music tastes are eclectic at best, ranging from classical piano to hard rock/heavy metal. It all depends on the song, group, and if it has a good beat or is a soulful ballad.

REVIEW

Before I go any further with this review I will say that I had a problem with this book that is personal to me and no fault of the author whatsoever.  The heroine had a limb amputated as a teenager, and this is something that really touches a nerve with me at the moment, and once I read the chapter where Grace recalls the amputation I struggled to get it out of my mind.  I want to be totally honest and say that as much as I tried not to let it, this undoubtedly affected by enjoyment of the book and therefore my review.  Totally not the author's fault, just an unfortunate coincidence.

Learning to Move Forward is book #3.5 in the A Learning series, and is the last book of the series.  It centres around Grace and Jonathan, who I believe were supporting characters in the first three books. This book can be read as a standalone, but I think I may have enjoyed the book more and found it easier to connect to the characters if I had read the previous books first.  The events in the other books sound really exciting and action packed, so I may go back and read these books at some stage.

Grace and Jonathan are engaged but in order to move ahead with their relationship they need to overcome issues from their pasts.  Recent events threw them together, but they still need to come to terms with everything that happened to their family.  Grace also has a very traumatic past that is still affecting her life today.  A lot of this book revolves around the couple working through those problems with the help of a therapist and journal entries.  This book is full of emotion and the author conveys this well, especially through the journal entries which are really touching.

There are also some really hot moments in this book, with some really nicely written sex scenes.  The love and chemistry between Grace and Jonathan is obvious, and the reader finds themselves really hoping they can overcome their problems and have a happy life together.  I enjoyed the author's writing style, it seemed really natural and the story flowed well.  I give this book three and a half stars out of five, but I suspect it would have been more if I had read the other books first.
